My mentor once told me, "Fly with the eagle, and raise with the rooster." I found the quote rather interesting when it comes to networking parties during the work week.
"Fly with the eagle" - Late nights attending networking events with clients.
"Raise with the rooster." - Despite the late nights, be discipline and get to work on time.
Being in the creative industry, with a client servicing role, networking is a crucial part of my job. Meeting new people for new business, building good relations with whoever we work was important. Therefore, it consists of fortnightly parties, events, and weekly casual drinking session with colleagues after work.
With one drink, known as "One for the road", never stick as one. It always ends up with a usual wee early morning taxi ride home, all tipsy, and the back of my mind going, "Shit! I've gotta be up by 7.30am to be at work by 10 am!" But I end up at work after lunch hours instead.
Bless me! The boss was going through the same hangover as I was, and text us to either work from home or by in by 1 pm instead. I do try and get to work on time to ensure I have a good day ahead, despite the crazy night before. Thanks, mentor!
